Stochastic Series Expansion Quantum Monte Carlo
نویسنده
چکیده
This Chapter outlines the fundamental construction of the Stochastic Series Expansion, a highly efficient and easily implementable quantum Monte Carlo method for quantum lattice models. Originally devised as a finite-temperature simulation based on a Taylor expansion of the partition function, the method has recently been recast in the formalism of a zero-temperature projector method, where a large power of the Hamiltonian is applied to a trial wavefunction to project out the groundstate. Although these two methods appear formally quite different, their implementation via non-local loop or cluster algorithms reveals their underlying fundamental similarity. Here, we briefly review the finiteand zero-temperature formalisms, and discuss concrete manifestations of the algorithm for the spin 1/2 Heisenberg and transverse field Ising models.

A Stochastic algorithm to solve multiple dimensional Fredholm integral equations of the second kind
In the present work, a new stochastic algorithm is proposed to solve multiple dimensional Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. The solution of the integral equation is described by the Neumann series expansion. Each term of this expansion can be considered as an expectation which is approximated by a continuous Markov chain Monte Carlo method. An algorithm is proposed to sim...
متن کاملEvidence of Unconventional Universality Class in a Two-Dimensional Dimerized Quantum Heisenberg Model
The two-dimensional J-J ′ dimerized quantum Heisenberg model is studied on the square lattice by means of (stochastic series expansion) quantum Monte Carlo simulations as a function of the coupling ratio α = J /J . The critical point of the order-disorder quantum phase transition in the J-J ′ model is determined as αc = 2.5196(2) by finite-size scaling for up to approximately 10 000 quantum spi...
متن کاملUniversal scaling at field-induced magnetic phase transitions
We study field-induced magnetic order in cubic lattices of dimers with antiferromagnetic Heisenberg interactions. The thermal critical exponents at the quantum phase transition from a spin liquid to a magnetically ordered phase are determined from stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo simulations. These exponents are independent of the interdimer coupling ratios, and converge to the v...
متن کاملComprehensive quantum Monte Carlo study of the quantum critical points in planar dimerized/quadrumerized Heisenberg models
We study two planar square lattice Heisenberg models with explicit dimerization or quadrumerization of the couplings in the form of ladder and plaquette arrangements. We investigate the quantum critical points of those models by means of stochastic series expansion quantum Monte Carlo simulations as a function of the coupling ratio =J /J. The critical point of the order-disorder quantum phase t...
متن کاملThe directed-loop algorithm
The directed-loop scheme is a framework for generalized loop-type updates in quantum Monte Carlo, applicable both to world-line and stochastic series expansion methods. Here, the directed-loop equations, the solution of which gives the probabilities of the various loop-building steps, are discussed in the context of the anisotropic S = 1/2 Heisenberg model in a uniform magnetic field. This exam...
